Budapest Airport is the main international airport of Hungary, the gateway for a land-locked catchment of over 12.7m people in a nearby radius. Serving 11.4m passengers in 2016 – an all-time high in the history of the airport – Budapest continues to expand, with the number of passengers exceeding 12m by the end of November 2017, an increase of over 14% year-on-year. Growth has become the norm for Budapest in recent years. The 2017/2018 schedule contained 14 new flights and frequency increases, including new services to sunshine destinations including the Canary Islands and Morocco. Both Ryanair and Wizz Air are offering new flights at affordable prices, and December 2017 saw the return of Iberia Airlines to the Airport.
Budapest Airport wanted to make improvements to its service offering, with particular focus on its on airport parking facilities. As more and more off-airport competitors sprung up, the Airport saw a clear need to capitalise on the growing demand for parking on site. It wanted to connect with its customers and improve the passenger experience by streamlining their pre-flight journey.
New to pre-book parking, Budapest needed an advanced solution that would enable it to quickly and cost-effectively regain market share, whilst offering its customers a secure, reliable and high quality booking service and parking facility.
Budapest opted to use Rezcomm’s digital solutions to develop its own pre-book parking facility. The integrated booking function very quickly became so popular with motorists and travellers alike that the airport extended its parking facility to include a dedicated holiday parking site known as Holiday Plus Car Park, which soon accounted for two thirds of all vehicles parked using the service. Rezcomm’s systems enable the Airport to set flexible pricing to manage yields, facilitating optimised revenue.
By leveraging the advanced functionality within the Rezcomm solutions, other products and services have been introduced, including value ‘combo’ deals which are available for purchase during certain promotional periods. These include significant discounts on parking packages to include Fast Track security access and a car wash service.
